• Sharks win home opener

    by  • June 9, 2013

It was a beautiful day at Shark Park as the Bucks County Sharks kicked off their 2013 campaign against the New York Raiders. The game was scheduled to kick off at 2PM but due to some transportation issues that impacted the Raiders it started around around 3PM. It was a true test of discipline for the young Sharks to remain poised and focused during the warm-up routine knowing that the exact kickoff time was unknown. “I wanted the lads to put all the delays out of their heads and just focus on completing our sets,” said coach Steve ‘Tomo’ Thompson. Complete their sets they did – from end to end the Sharks maintained control of the game with a high tempo pace. There were some rusty moments where guys ran the wrong lines but thankfully the playmakers were able to make adjustments on the fly. “Plus 2 double A?!? I’m a prop, what the hell is that?!?” exclaimed long time front rower Justin Zadnik as a play unfolded in front of him. The final line was 54-8 and there were a lot of positive aspects of the game to build off of. “I think we executed our game plan effectively,” said Captain Steve ‘Velvet Fog’ Tormey who needed to have a big day after botching the opening ceremonies. All in all it was a great day of footy – and we look forward to improving as the season progresses. To that end, it is worth mentioning the celebrity couple in attendance; Phil ‘Dirty Phil’ Shipos and Dan ‘Gator Scroat’ McGovern (a.k.a. Hans and Frans) … could they be plotting their return to Rugby League? Only time will tell, but seeing the boys having so much fun on the pitch can be contagious. Heck, even one of the ‘founding fathers’ decided to suit up yesterday. ‘The Ageless’ Fred Backhaus stepped on the pitch yesterday to prove that he is still more than capable, and the new fellas were treated to some flawless execution as he moved the ball around the paddock.

Tough week of practice ahead as the Sharks prepare for another home match against the Northern Virginia Eagles. Details to follow as times and locations are finalized.

Sharks attack buckets of beer & chicken wings

The Sharks ended last nights training session in the rain on a high note, then proceeded to congregate at our newest sponsor – ‘The Five Four’. As you can see, the fellas were lured there by their beverage specials and tasty wings. The energy around the table was intoxicating as many new players are eager to take the field this weekend against the New York Raiders. “This is a statement game and we need to use our home field advantage to show our new teammates how to get physical” said long time Shark Tim McCall. With all the new faces in the lineup it will be crucial to have a disciplined attack this weekend; but more importantly our defense needs to be tenacious. “We’ve put a strong emphasis on defense in all our training sessions thus far, so I’m expecting the lads to come up off the line with a sense of purpose” expelled Steve ‘Tomo’ Thompson. Ol’ Sharky is pretty pumped for the weekend – there is nothing like the first hit of the season. See you at Shark Park at 2PM this Saturday.
